Philippos Thoenes, 1994 in Bergisch Gladbach geboren, verbrachte seine prägenden Jahre in Leipzig, wo er 2021 sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy als Student von Professor Heinrich Köbberling mit dem Bachelor of Music abschloss. Im Rahmen des European Jazz Master Program konnte er ein Jahr am Jazz Institut in Berlin und am Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris verbringen, wo er unter der Leitung von Franscesco Ciniglio ein tieferes Verständnis des Schlagzeugspiels erlangen konnte. Philippos wohnt derzeit in Leipzig, wo er 2021 den Leipziger Jazznachwuchspreis gewann. Seit 2022 ist er Privatschüler des Schlagzeugers Marvin ‘Bugalu’ Smith (Archie Shepp, Sun Ra, etc.)

Philippos Thoenes, born in Bergisch Gladbach in 1994, spent his formative years in Leipzig, where he graduated from Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in 2021 with a Bachelor of Music as a student of professor Heinrich Köbberling. While attending the European Jazz Master Program he was able to spend one year at the Jazz Institut in Berlin and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris, where he was able to gain a deeper understanding of drumming under the tutelage of Franscesco Ciniglio. Philippos currently resides in Leipzig, where he won the „Leipziger Jazznachwungspreis“ (Leipzig’s Jazz Newcomer Award) in 2021. Since 2022 he is a private student of drummer Marvin ‚Bugalu‘ Smith (Archie Shepp, Sun Ra, etc.)
